Why work with me?
I know there are plenty of options out there and I'm proud to be a part of a thriving cultural sector consultancy scene. So why would you choose to work with me?
Track Record: I first began my freelance business in 2004. Since then I've established a strong track record for delivering creative, innovative and high quality work. The projects featured on this website are just a selection of the client work I've done over the past 16 years. Every project is different, so there are no formulas: I'll work with you to clarify the brief for your project and have established standards and processes that ensure I deliver on time, within budget and to the quality standards you need. Consultancy work is very different from being an employee: it requires a different skill set to deliver against outcomes and deal with the constant juggling act of running different projects simultaneously. I'm happy to supply client contact details for any of the work I've done and am confident that my track record speaks for itself. I can also supply copies of policies, insurance documentation and terms & conditions of business on request.
Knowledge and expertise: I'm a museum professional with over 20 years of practitioner and consultancy experience across national, independent and local authority organisations. I've had an eclectic portfolio career which now means that I can offer clients a combination of curatorial, educational and management experience, underpinned by an MA in Museum Studies from the University of Leicester and a first class degree in Archaeology & History from Durham University. I've always focused on professional development and have added a range of professional qualifications: I'm a Social Return on Investment practitioner, a qualified Prince2 practitioner, and I have a postgraduate certificate in Creative Writing from the University of York. Most recently I completed a Level 7 Chartered Management Institute Leadership & Management programme with the University of Huddersfield. I've been an Associate of the Museums Association since 2000 and for many years I've been an active mentor for the AMA programme.
Quality and value: in these challenging times, every penny counts. I've worked in organisations of all sizes and I know how important it is to demonstrate value for money, both for museums and for their funders. I might not be the cheapest consultant available but clients will always get my full time and attention and the benefit of years of expertise. I'm confident that my pricing is competitive, fair and transparent: I don't add in mysterious office or administration charges and I won't consider a project complete until you're 100% happy with the outcomes.
A collaborative approach: for larger projects, I'll pull together a team of specialists with the right mix of skills and experience to achieve results. I am very lucky to work with some brilliant people including fellow consultants, oral historians, artists, film-makers and designers. I'm committed to building capacity within the sector and often find that projects work best when I and my associates work with your staff in a supportive, mentoring relationship. The most satisfying project is one in which you're not only happy with the work we've done, but feel that you and your staff have grown in confidence and developed new skills.
I'm based in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, with excellent transport links across the UK and Europe.
