Piece Hall Development Programme
Halifax's Piece Hall is the sole survivor of the great 18th century northern cloth halls. Built in 1779 as a marketplace for the town's hugely successful cloth trade, it was overtaken by the Industrial Revolution and its original purpose was short-lived. However, it has remained a Halifax landmark for over 230 years and has hosted events as diverse as a hot air balloon ascent, a tightrope walk, Japanese Taiko drummers, Calderdale's Gay Pride celebration and an array of markets and commercial ventures.
Calderdale Council is spearheading an exciting redevelopment programme for the Piece Hall to restore the fabric of the building, revitalise the retail offer and interpret the heritage of this stunning building. Emma is delighted to be working on the Activity Plan for an HLF bid with audience development consultants Wafer Hadley. Over the coming months we'll be working closely with the team at Calderdale to develop proposals for learning, interpretation and audience development that will do justice to one of the jewels in Yorkshire's heritage crown.
Piece Hall has its own website at www.thepiecehall.co.uk where you can find out about current events and activities.
