Museum Mentors, formerly known as Curatorial Advisers, are museum professionals who work with museums that do not have suitably qualified staff to support them in applying for Accreditation. Last year Emma worked with Ali Bodley on a review of the Curatorial Adviser programme for MLA to find out how the scheme was operating across the country and propose revisions in line with the forthcoming changes to Accreditation.
The MLA accepted our recommendations for changes to the scheme, including a change of name, and produced a handbook and toolkit based on our work. The Accreditation scheme has since transferred to Arts Council England, and the new Accreditation scheme has just been launched on the ACE website along with guidance for how to apply.
Ali and Emma are now working with Renaissance North West to run training for current and potential Museum Mentors and the museums they work with to outline the changes to the scheme and introduce the new toolkit. The first session is in Preston on 20 October and we're hoping to run other training days elsewhere. Contact us if you're interested in coming to the Preston event or want to talk to us about providing training in your region.
