I worked with the Leeds-based charity Yorkshire MESMAC as an adviser for their successful bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund for the Queer Stories project. From 2018 - 2020 Queer Stories worked with Yorkshire communities to collect, interpret and promote the heritage of LGBTIQ+ people in the region and there's now a terrific archive of stories on the project website and collections of material now being preserved in the West Yorkshire Archive Service and Leeds City Museum. Queer histories have typically been under-represented in museum and archive collections but are important for individual, community and regional identities. The stories have been used to inspire new art works and will help change the way we think about the people's history of West Yorkshire.
